Alexis Cavazos
About Me
My name is Alexis Cavazos, daughter of Billie and Danny Cavazos. I am senior at Newton Community High School. I participate in the Spanish, Beta, and Art clubs. Also, I am a proud member of the Newton Marching Eagles. I have been employed at the Greenup Dairy Queen for the last year and a half. Believe it or not, working at Dairy Queen has given me several life lessons and opportunities to learn how to communicate, be reliable, and how to manage time. I have made many accomplishments at my job, such as: being the cake decorator, crossed trained, and becoming a shift lead manager. Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. My hobbies include painting, sketching, knitting, and doing makeup. I wanted to be apart of the CEO class because business peaks my interest. In the future, my occupational goals are to become an elementary school teacher and own my own art studio business. I am very excited to see how CEO will improve my knowledge and overall self as a person.

Today we had guest speaker Tom Purcell. Tom has been a part of CEO since before the beginning. He had a dry sense of humor and was very entertaining to listen too. Tom told many stories and gave lots of advice. His dream was to become a professional hockey player. He set up ways to achieve his goal, but he found out through the process that it was not for him. He then became a teacher. This told me a lot. I might dream about becoming something, but it might not even be close to what I want at all. He spoke about making the right decisions when going to college and general information about how CEO can be life changing. He explained that having notepads out at a meeting automatically make you better than everyone else and being late was not acceptable. Tom had so much to share and I appreciate him being able to come speak to us.

Today we went on a business visit to Rauch’s Jewelry and PS Reality. June Bierman is an amazing person who has a big passion for what she does. I have never been to Rauch’s Jewelry before and afterwards, I really questioned why I haven't. It was very interesting and June had a blast explaining the background and history of her business. June also stressed on the fact that it is important to have different kinds of people in the world because the world needs people who are good at something that others are not. We also talked to Scott Bierman about his business of PS Reality. Scott explained to us the process of how to buy a house. He also told us how important it to be responsible with our actions and our money because our future life depends on today.

Today we had Ken Larimore back again to talk to us. We started off by finishing the strengths from Tuesday. There were so many positive things about our county. This was a great method and I am happy we did this because many light bulbs popped up in some people's minds about the class business, which Gabe presented this morning. I think that having a local business trade show would be so beneficial in so many ways. Ken has so much knowledge and loves what he does to help Jasper County. Ken also got to talk about TIF’s and the enterprise zone. I did not even realize that these things are so crucial or important to a town until I joined CEO. It is amazing that tax increment financing could allow 249 projects to be made one county.
